More onions and village weeding

This is the palm tree that has the strong leaves. I can see why everyone has one of these in their front yard.
The other picture shows the kaki hanging at my in-laws' house- she always outdoes me. Look how many she did!
The temperature has fallen - it is cold! The village was called into action to weed the roadsides and slopes along the canals. Our head of the han (the hancho) determined that this is men's work. If you don't have a man, then you can come with a broom and sweep up behind the weed cutters. I didn't go because my husband was available and I had already cut the slopes in front of our house. So, some dude comes along and decides that I had missed a few "weeds" and goes over my clean slope and cuts down all the amaryllis flowers. I had carefully cut and weeded to allow the flowers to grow and he didn't even recognize that they were flowers. Honestly, this is the only village in town where they slaughter flowers. Every other village allows people to cultivate the slopes. Why don't they just spray herbicide and kill everything while they're at it.
Obachan called me up and kept talking about onions. We finished planting the onions, so what did she want me to do? I can't follow the phone conversation so I went over and she said she had more onion sets but couldn't find them! Great - so we go looking around the small garden looking for lost onions. We found them, hiding under the taro leaves. I took the last 50 onions and planted them on the big field.
