Obachan was tired out from the omochi making so I headed out to the garden to procure some daikon for pickling. The long daikon were washed and trimmed and set out in the sun on a rock in the garden. The round daikon was culled from the row so that the others could grow - globe shaped daikon will grow to 10-12 inches diameter. They taste the same as the other ones.
We have heaps of spinach and bokchoi. The Napa cabbage is
quite frost-bitten and wilted, I'm not sure what we can salvage. If we get a week of mild weather, we might be able to eat the heart of the cabbage. Right now it is so cold inside this house that I'm feeling frost-bitten. I am determined not to turn on the gas heater but my finger is on the button...I'm so-o-o cold!
