Another funeral

Along with the strong gale forced winds came the news of another death in the community. The 100-year old mother of my husband's aunt's husband passed away after several years in hospital. Her sister remains well at 103.

After working outside all day, I'm not sure I'll ever make it that long nor am I sure I would want to. I double dug a few rows in the small garden, cleaned up the weeds, created two compost piles and rototilled one section with the little 'tiller. My mother-in-law is such an easy target for swindlers - she bought this ridiculous model of a mini-plow which is so hard to use, not to mention that I have to practically walk on my knees to push it around. The big heavy rototiller is kind of scary but at least it has controls that make sense. This thing doesn't have turn brakes so you have to careen around the corners and the main brakes work by letting go of the handle - that's practical. It was good weather to work until this warm front moved in - it's like a little typhoon.

This is the time to fertilize the cabbages, garlics and onions. We spread nitrogen on the soil and tilled it under so I can make mounds and plant potatoes. We'll plant on both fields. It looks like rain tomorrow, so maybe later.
