The land of the rising sun: sure, the rising sun brought daylight and revealed that my house was a total disaster zone. Lesson learned: just when I thought I had seen the worst, it was worse.
I declared war on this mess. One square foot at a time, one cupboard, one shelf, one drawer until a general state of order was restored. Lesson learned: my husband is incompetent when in comes to taking care of the house.
The sun also brought out the sparkles in the field –the rice is about waist high (or knee high – depending on who is in the field) and the rice grains are just beginning to swell. The morning dew clings to the very tips of the leaves and glistens. If you squint and ignore the wires and poles, you can see the village of the past with the old tile rooftops and shabby barns, fields of lush green, narrow bands of roads…and for a moment, with a bit of imagination, it is timeless… Until the phone rings and someone on the other end is trying to sell fiberoptic Internet.
