Onions or weeds

I believe that the fertilizer we spread a couple weeks ago did nothing more than spur the growth of the weedy grasses. The onions are choking in grass, so I sat amongst the rows to weed, as my golden retriever rolled around over the onion sets and chased mole trails. The soil is sticky and wet. This field has no drainage. We incorporate all kinds of organic matter and it still is clayish and heavy. It was nice to be outdoors but my fingers ache.

Stupid brother-in-law came for a visit -he is the most drab, dull, boring, non-talkative, uninteresting person on earth. He and his family live in Nobeoka, about 3 hours drive from here but when they visit they stay at my mother-in-laws. We were told that they were all here. So I invited his wife (my husband's sister) over for a drink, because she is more inclined to party. He says, OK, I'll be sure and tell her. I arrange for 8pm. He says, that sounds good. Great. A little after 8, we call over to the house to see if she is going to come and the husband says, oh, she didn't come to Kumamoto, she's at home in Nobeoka. ?? Why didn't he say that in the first place - like before I ran to the store to get snacks and wine. Why did he say, OK? He said it to my husband - it's not like I didn't understand the words or something. Apparently, he was just trying to be polite and iddn't want to let me down by telling me the truth. These people drive me nuts. So I'm drinking the damn wine - alone. I even cleaned and dusted. Well, at least the house is clean now!
