March!

February is not my favorite month - my lowest motivation of the year month - so I am glad March has arrived. This year it rained so frequently that I never did get to plow the top field and I never was able to turn the soil between the wheat rows. I guess it will just have to grow on its own.

I did manage to harvest the last of the globe daikon. These are sliced into strips and dried outdoors, assuming the weather cooperates. As it is, they are slowly drying indoors in the living room.
Spring brings nanohana (the yellow flowers) or rape seed blossoms. The river banks and sides of the fields are glowing in yellow. Behind these are takana or mustard greens used for pickles. Even though it is early in the year, it feels like spring. The fields are green, the weeds are abundant again, color is returning to the village!

Hah. February is my favorite month (well, since we moved to Florida in '74). The weather is perfection. Valentine's Day is fun (well, since I med hubby in '82). And my birthday falls in that month. So, I get presents, chocolates, flowers, and great weather. What's not to love. Also, it's the prime festival month down here--arts, food tasting, assorted outdoor events due to clement weather. Everyone wants to be outside! :)
