Wheat sprouts

The last couple of days of balmy rainy weather resulted in fields of sprouted wheat. It always makes me feel like it is spring when I see fresh green sprouts in neat lines up and down the fields. I can see where the crows were fearless or the field mice stocked up - there are a few vacant spots in the rows - but all in all, it looks like we will have a crop this year. You never can be sure until the seeds actually sprout. Of course, the weeds welcomed the burst of warm weather as well and so I will have to get out and weed the gardens -just doesn't seem like the thing to be doing in winter.

Maya, my daughter, has a full day of school on both Dec. 24-25, so our holiday plans are limited. It doesn't feel like Christmas beyond my front yard.

The neighbors are at the peak of their greenhouse crops, busier than ever. This is the season for greenhouse mini tomatoes and strawberries.
