gathering place, to collect and loan reading materials. We don't have a public library. You have to drive into Kumamoto City and apply for a card there or use the main Prefectural library, also in the city. It is a pretty intimidating place for most people. So the book mobile is a friendly way to bring books to the people. It caters to the older readers. I took my kids a few times and there were only about a dozen children's books and nothing for ages 8-18. More than books, it is another meeting place where people can hang out and socialize and talk about something other than the weather - they can talk about books!
