Book Day in the Village

Every month or so, depending on the holiday schedule and weather, the local book mobile parks by the garbage dumpsters, our central village gathering place, to collect and loan reading materials.
We don't have a public library. You have to drive into Kumamoto City and apply for a card there or use the main Prefectural library, also in the city. It is a pretty intimidating place for most people. So the book mobile is a friendly way to bring books to the people. It caters to the older readers. I took my kids a few times and there were only about a dozen children's books and nothing for ages 8-18. More than books, it is another meeting place where people can hang out and socialize and talk about something other than the weather - they can talk about books!
