Onion harvest

I finally got around to pulling up the onions. Even after all these years, it seems strange to harvest onions at the end of May rather than in the fall. Our challenge is to store them during the hot humid rainy season.
The muddy field dried into something akin to concrete and it took a pitchfork and some clod breaking in order to free the little onions from the grip of the soil.
The spring rains and poor drainage on the big field stunted my onions so few grew to a normal size - kind of embarrassing when I looked at other harvests! Oh well, better luck next year. I trimmed the roots and stems and have them in baskets on the deck drying until we can store them in the barn.
