Pickled Peppers were HOT

I don't know how Peter Piper picked them but these ended up being so hot my tongue, lips, gums and throat went numb! I thought the pickles would be just pickled so I ate a whole pepper - what a shock! Were these plants mislabeled? I think these are hot chili peppers. Well, now that I know how hot they are, I will use my pickles sparingly.
