Stone Walkway Revealed!

See these stones in the foreground? See that grass near the wheelbarrow? So why couldn't my husband, the dear, see that the grass was growing over the stones? I have been digging away at sod, up to 2 inches thick and his only comment was, "I didn't know we had rocks there!" While I was away, the grass just took over and all that grass in the background needs to be dug up to reveal the walkway. It's kind of like an archeological dig - wow, there's a stone under here, from the Karen-era, BSL (before-she-left). I tell you now, if I ever leave again, I am not coming back. I am getting too old to do this. Here's some insight: this Bermuda grass doesn't thrive in the shade. So if dear husband had not cut down all the trees, maybe this grass would not be such a problem?
The weather is just too nice not to work outside, although it was a bit hot today. I closed the irrigation gates for the paddy fields today. In the past, my mother-in-law would come over and tell us to do this. I always wondered, why this particular day? What intuition, what instinct, what knowledge did this woman possess to know that on a particular day, it was time to stop the flow of water for three days and then reflood the fields? I have been in awe of her powers for years and then I found it - a calendar from the agricultural society that tells you exactly what to do each week: when to flood, when to irrigate, when to apply herbicides or fertilizers. She had always kept the calendar and given us orders what to do, but recently my husband took it and the secret has been revealed! Well, she still is wisebut I feel a little better knowing that my instincts do not need to be so finely honed.
I rode my bike 2 miles each way just to grab a cold beer. I earned it. I also bought the most expensive and tasteless cheese on the planet for pizza. As much as I love our Japanese rice, once in a while, I need something different. Thank goodness my package of comfort items - herbs and spices - arrived by post yesterday so I could enjoy some Italian seasonings!
