Harvest delayed

Worries about too much rainfall from the typhoon pushed back the harvest dates. First we were called to postpone until the 11th and then today, they changed it to the 13th. It makes it hard to plan anything because we can't set our own schedule. My husband works on the 13th and so we might trade with someone for the 12th. This gets so complicated. The fields are really muddy so I don't mind waiting a few days before mucking around.

I checked the field for our greens and garlic and in spite of the deluge the little seedlings have sprouted! Some kind of washed out of line but I'm surprised that they made it at all. The winds blew over the bean trellis and the flower urns at the gravesite, so I fixed those up and then went back to digging sod out of the driveway, setting the rocks on the edges and replanting the grass on the space between our house and the neighbors. That's a weird little space - there used to be a road behind our house but now it only extends about 4 meters (12 feet) before it runs into privately owned land. This mini-lane is still owned by the county but of course, it is all overrun by weeds so I end up taking care of it. It slopes down toward our drainage canal, so I threw the sod there hoping it might take hold and at least choke out some of the weeds.

This yard project is taking forever but I really need it organized so it is easier to maintain. Already, weeds are coming up in the first areas that I worked on last month. At least the days are cooler and it is rather pleasant to work outside. The rainfall softened the soil and it has been easier to uproot the grass.
